The best & worst day in Belize

If you would ask my son Nicholas what his best and worst times in Belize were, he’d say the day we went to an island by boat.

He had never been in a small boat on the ocean before, and as luck would have it we picked a day with torrential downpour and 6 foot waves. Looking back, we should have cancelled the day trip and opted for safety. But as tourists we had no clue and our guides seemed to think it was ok. So we got thrown around in a tiny fishing boat in 6 foot waves, hanging on for dear life and my poor son bent over a bucket groaning and thinking he would die during the entire 40 min ride. Being a little bit of an adventure seeker myself, I pretty much laughed and whooped the entire way there as wave after wave soaked me to my skin. But also having my arm around my son; trying to comfort him, telling him to breathe and keep looking at the horizon. Upon arrival, I felt like I had just coached someone through labour HA. So that was the worst part of Belize! And knowing we’d have to make the trip back in the evening.

Thank goodness the sun came out after lunch and we got to enjoy 4 hours of swimming & relaxing in this slice or turquoise water heaven! Nicholas later said this was his best time in Belize and if there is a next time, I’ll make sure we spend a ton more time at the ocean!

At the end of the day, we did make it back safely to the mainland. I however made sure Nicholas and I were in a larger boat which made the ride smoother! Hope you enjoyed these images. Seriously, the Caribbean ocean takes my breath away! At this point I’d go back in a heart beat IF it was on an island in Belize and I could spend the entire time shooting and relaxing.

Also thank you to my gorgeous niece Sharilyn for being my muse!
