Last year I was pleasantly surprised to get an email from Hillary Folkvord in Montana! Hillary is not only a mom and blogger but successfully runs a number of hotels with her family. The Folkvords are a generational farm in Three Forks, MT and founded Wheat Montana back in the 80’s. Hillary invited me to come stay at the Sacajawea Hotel with my family and blog about our time there! So as we headed out on our annual road trip to Seattle to visit my husband’s family, we decided to spend a week exploring Three Forks and Bozeman, MT! I’ve always loved Montana, so to actually stay for a week and explore was a dream come true!
Upon arrival, we settled into the new cottages at the Sacajawea. One cabin for the boys and one cabin for Mark & I! They are new, clean, fresh and so comfortable. Each modern cottage has a kitchenette, king bed, and private porch where I loved to sit with my morning coffee! Read more about these cottages in this blog post; Why a Sacajawea Cottage makes for a perfect weekend retreat!
After settling into our cottages, we walked over to Pompey’s Grill in the hotel where Hillary had made reservations for us. Let’s just say the food was unreal! If you like a good steak, these were so so good! Pompey’s is known as one of the best steakhouses in Montana and they didn’t disappoint! Of course the boys loved picking their meals from the menu and devoured everything placed in front of them. We sat out on the back deck, on a gorgeous summer evening surrounded by beautiful flowers, fun overhead umbrellas and twinkling lights!
In the morning, breakfast was delivered in picnic baskets to our cottage porches!
On our first day in Three Forks, the hotel packed us a picnic lunch and we headed out to explore the surrounding area. There is a lot to do like tubing the river, hiking, fishing, exploring the Lewis & Clark caverns and the list goes on. Since our youngest is only 5, we opted to be a bit more laid back; picnic and swimming was all the boys needed after a few days of travelling.
In the evening Hillary’s family took us for a tour of their vast farmland in the hotel’s 1969 Checker Aerobus limo (which is available for rental)! This was such a treat to have her dad drive us into the rolling hills of crops surrounded by mountains in the distance.
What an incredibly hard working family! And such an honour to spend the time with them in Three Forks!
After such a packed, fun filled day; Logan didn’t survive the limo ride haha.
We ended the day at the Sac Bar downstairs. Again, the food with amazing! We ordered their burgers and gourmet poutine, yes a poutine in the USA! My boys were thrilled and it was devoured! And the burgers; YUM!
The boys were ready to retire after this so they headed back to the cottage for a movie while Mark & I took our drinks to the porch and enjoyed the sunset.
This porch… sigh! Perfect ending to a beautiful summer day.
Hillary, we are so grateful you invited us out for the experience! We cannot wait to visit again!
