good-bye summer, hello fall!

I look at the calendar and can’t believe it is already September! Where did summer go? But isn’t that the question we always ask ourselves every fall? For one, our summer season up here is pretty short and second, since it is so short we pack a lot into those 3 months making the time fly so fast! To say it was jam packed is an understatement. There are so many sessions and personal adventures I want to blog about so I thought I’d give you all a preview of what’s still to come and what kept me busy this summer!

Next up I will be posting more about this gorgeous wedding in Seattle.

Ben & Aileen married! | part 1

Where to begin…? In July Mark and I with our 3 boys traveled to Seattle for a family vacation. Aileen had contacted me a year ago asking if we’d come shoot their wedding. So we arranged our family vacation around the same time, since Mark grew up in Seattle it was a great opportunity to see friends and family as well! We’ve known Ben and his family for a long time and it was so sweet to be a part of their beautiful day! By beautiful, I mean insanely beautiful! When Aileen told me she works at Pottery Barn I knew instantly that I would LOVE the details she would put into her big day and that her style would be identical to mine! Upon arriving at Beau Lodge; the location for their wedding, I practically jumped up and down with glee seeing all the DIY loveliness! Aileen is so extremely creative and spent hours and hours designing all the hand painted signs, paper pinwheels, paper labels, gorgeous programs and stunning decorations! I could go on and on but will let the pictures tell the story and will add captions as I go! So be prepared for lots of details and yummy goodness!

Aileen, along with her sister-in-law Ellen are the creative minds behind the wedding blog Love and Lavender! I read their blog daily and it’s so inspirational! Be sure to check it out!

One of Aileen’s bridesmaids Sarah, did all the hair and makeup! And their choice of flowers was so vibrant!

1

I loved the photo booth setup under a tree and took the dresses outside for some detailed shots! Paper pinwheels made my Aileen.

2

Aileen designed her own wedding gown and had it custom sewn! The bridesmaid dresses are from Anthropologie! (If you know me, you know how much I love that store!!)

3

How awesome and unique are these boutonnieres?

4

While all the prep was going on, I had some time to walk around and take a bunch of detailed shots! The memory wall was a highlight for all the guests, including pictures of their parents on their wedding days.

5

I love that all the centre pieces were collected over time from consignment shops! Antique mason jars filled with lavender, roses, and other beautiful flowers. Antique books piled on all the tables that were scattered throughout the lawn and among the trees. Accented with paper pinwheels, rustic keys, and delicate doilies!

6

The delicious cake was from Pure Bliss Desserts and the cake topper made by Aileen!

7

My time spent with the bride in the morning is usually one of the highlights of the day! So much happiness, laughter, tears, joy and all other emotions mixed with pure anticipation for the big day ahead.

8

Love that last picture which was taken by my husband! Once again while I was with the ladies, Mark went into the “man cave” to capture some moments of their preparation! Love the one of Ben’s dad helping him with his tie.

9

Just a fun fact, Ben’s older brother Josh was one of the best men at our wedding nearly 10 years ago!

Phew! That was long-winded, hope your finger is not tired from all that scrolling, ha! More posts coming soon!

Marlene

This summer evening was one of those you long for in the dead of winter… simple perfection! The glowing lady is my younger sister Marlene! Expecting baby girl #3! So sit back, relax, and let’s rewind to this beautiful evening in July…

We started out in “my field” where I love to shoot!

She has the cutest little baby bump…

After soaking up the warm sunshine in the field, we headed down to the dock to dip our feet in the lake.

Brian & Kelley engaged!

During our road trip to Washington I met up with my dear friend, Amanda (Celebrate Life Photography) in a gorgeous peach orchard close to Portland, Oregon! I absolutely love peaches and have dreamt of shooting in an orchard for a long time. So needless to say, I was super excited when Amanda asked me to come shoot an engagement session with her!! Amanda found the perfect location, the evening could not have been more beautiful, Kelley & Brain were amazing! and I can still smell the peaches as we played in the orchard! Please read more about this couple and their story AND more amazing photos on Amanda’s blog post HERE!!

We started out in the greenhouse, the lighting in there was insane! Amanda wanted some tilt shift action, so I used my 45mm f2.8 t/s lens for the entire session and fell in love with it all over again!

post1

We then headed towards the peach orchard! mmmm the smell of peaches was so amazing! Just keep in mind I come from Manitoba and we don’t have orchards up here so this was a totally new experience for me and I LOVED it! Kelley & Brian were super fun and our cameras loved them!

post2

Kelley juggles! How fun is that? I thoroughly enjoyed watching Amanda do her thing and trust me, she is so amazing with her clients!  I loved all the details, down to the peach basket and tin can wire phones! Love was in the air!

post3

These sheep seemed thoroughly amused and entertained by us! I won’t mention the sheep dog whom I entertained for a couple hours that evening! He insisted on placing himself right beside Kelley & Brian for every shot… so I threw peaches and slobbery balls, talked puppy talk, scratched his belly, let him lean against me… and I’ll have you know, I’m so not a dog person! hehe

Did I mention the light was glorious that evening?

post4

Thank you Brian & Kelley for allowing me to tag along and capture some of your love for each other! I have absolute confidence that Amanda will capture your wedding day beautifully! Congrats on the engagement and all the best!!!

Amanda!! It was such a joy shooting with you and I wish we could do it more! I can’t end this post without a picture of you in action!
