Kenny & Kat (e-session) | Manitoba Engagement Photographer

Let me introduce to you Kenny & Kat in winter wonderland!! Back in December after lots of emailing back and forth, Kat and I finally met at Starbucks to plan for their engagement session! Her fiance, Kenny is from Texas (go Longhorns!). Just thought I’d throw that in there since you informed me many times about your commitment to the team ;). So Kenny was going to fly in to Winnipeg for about 5 days in January. My initial reaction was brrrr and I told her of the very likely possibility of it being too cold, January being the coldest month in Manitoba. But they were determined and we were blessed with one of the mildest Januarys I can ever remember having!! The Monday of our scheduled session I woke up and literally started giggling when I looked outside! It was a winter wonderland, a setting I had dreamed of shooting in for a long time. Everything was covered with a thick layer of hoar frost AND it was mild! I was so excited and so were Kenny & Kat. Just imagine coming from Texas and never really having seen snow before, he was like a little boy ;). Needless to say our session was filled with lots of laughter and fun! Plus aren’t they just a stunning couple? It was so lovely to meet you both and thanks for making the trek out into the boonies to find the best locations! Looking forward to your wedding day in June!!

Meet Kenny and Kat:

And just for fun thought I’d show you the reason behind them being graced with fluffy flakes. Every once in a while a slight breeze would send all the frost from the trees drifting into the air and surrounding us as if we were in a snow globe!

Rans & Felicity (e-session) | Manitoba Engagement Photographer

Welcome to my first photo session of 2010!! I am very excited to post this session! Mark & I met up with Rans and his fiance Felicity during our vacation in Seattle. Rans’ family have been very close friends with my family since like the late 80’s ;). So I’ve known Rans since he was 5ish?! Correct me if I’m wrong. While I was in highschool, their family moved away from Winnipeg and settled in Toronto. We have always kept in touch over the years. Rans pursued his passion of playing basketball which landed him a scholarship at Western Carolina University! This is where he met Felicity, who was/is a fellow Canadian playing volleyball for the same college! I believe this is when they started dating. Rans went on to play pro basketball in Europe!  I kept up to date with him through facebook and read about him getting down on bended knee in Rome last December :). Anyway, to make a long story short, I was beyond thrilled when Rans sent me an email asking if I’d photograph their wedding in Vancouver this coming July! Luck would have it, he was visiting Felicity in Vancouver the same time we were on vacation in Seattle so we decided to meet up, have coffee, catch up on the latest news ;) and do a quick engagement session! Of course, it was a torrential  downpour the day we met up. Really dark and miserable. Totally different environment for me to shoot in coming from sunny, bright Manitoba! But challenges are good.. and here is the result! It was so awesome to meet you Felicity and to catch up with you again Rans! We are really excited about your coming wedding day!

Ok, here is the 2nd part of our session. We found a parking spot close to the Pike Place Market downtown and started trudging up the stairs, only to find it was closed! New Year’s Day :). Oops, so we walked in the rain and found a few sort of covered alley ways. By this point we were all cold and wet so we got a few more shots then ducked into a furniture store and pretend shopped while Mark was a sweetheart and got the van :). But I must say I almost shrieked when Rans showed me his classic Winnipeg Jets sweater jersey! Go Jets Go! Yes, I know they have not existed for a long time but he still lived in Winnipeg during the Teemu Selanne glory years. (NHL hockey team; for those of you who don’t know). So of course I was all giddy and had to do some pictures with them sporting their Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks jerseys!

The Beauty of Winter

Something totally different from me but I wanted to share with you all the breathtaking beauty of hoar frost. Some of you may not be familiar with what that is, hoar frost happens when a heavy fog sets in during freezing temperatures and it coats everything with a layer of fluffy frost! The result: a frosty winter wonderland under a crazy blue sky!

Tag | Manitoba High School Senior Photographer

My husband & I first met Tag back in 2001! Back during our first year of marriage when we were living on beautiful Bainbridge Island.  I remember Tag as a talkative 10 year old, always happy :). I almost fell out of my chair when his mom; Kim contacted me earlier this year asking me to do his senior pictures!! How can these little people grow up so fast? So during our vacation in Seattle, we took our 3 boys over on the ferry (which they loved) and met up with Tag to shoot some pictures. I always loved the island, so many beautiful locations. Most of these were shot within 100 meters of his own home, where he grew up! Tag it was great seeing you and we wish you best of luck with your future!!

Kim, thank you for staying in touch and thanks for entertaining the boys! It was a pleasure!

Eric & Andrea | Manitoba Wedding Photographer

Eric & Andrea came home from a destination wedding in Hawaii just in time for the first cold spell of the season. And boy was it ever cold, with a windchill of -30C! I had done their engagement session back in the summer and was honored when they asked me to come do a session with them on their reception date in Winnipeg! We were not anticipating such frigid temperatures but I tell you, Andrea is the bravest bride I have ever met! She marched out there with zero hesitation and showed no sign of freezing, while Mark & I and Eric could barely last a few seconds! haha.

Andrea, I know you’ve been sooo patiently waiting for these pictures while my family went on vacation. Well I have a few minutes on one of our hotel stops on the way home and thought I’d throw atleast one image up on the blog for you! More to come in the next week!

Ok, here are a few more!

Alethia - Manitoba Children’s Photographer

A fun mini session with Alethia. It was very brief as the sun was setting over the prairies and her little hands got cold :(. She is modeling a gorgeous crocheted hat from Sparkleberry Crafts! Be sure to check out more of her cute little hats at the following link:

down memory lane…

as an 18 yr old girl, on an “adventure” in Seattle … I went to live with strangers, not knowing it would change my life forever! Not only did I meet my future husband but also so many other people who have become a huge and most precious part of my life! I rollerbladed down this road countless times, way before I ever picked up my first SLR camera but always thought what an awesome location this would be for pictures. I tried to capture it then with a disposable camera which of course did not do it justice ;). Today, I took my own 3 boys to that same location, 14 years later … and was giddy with excitement to finally capture some of the beauty of this place. A small lane in Edmonds, WA filled with so many old memories… and now some new ones with 3 squealing, jumping boys!
